I am thrilled to receive the Women in the City award 2009. The thing that I'm most proud of is the number of people we've actually seen come through to partner, and the careers I've helped develop. I've helped them address some things they didn't think they could do and helped them realise what it is they really want to do in their professional lives.
That's been fantastically rewarding because each person has different stages in their careers where they hit blocks, or speed and seem to be storming ahead - helping support them through that is a great challenge.
Sacha graduated with a degree in Chemistry from Oxford University in 1990 and qualified as an accountant in 1993. Sacha joined Grant Thornton in 1994 in the Thames Valley office and moved to the London office in 1996 where she gained significant experience working with larger listed companies both on audit and public reporting. After a sabbatical in 1998 she returned to London in 1999 and was appointed partner in 2001. During her time as managing partner of the London office, she personally mentored seven people through to partnership level which is a fantastic achievement. During this time, she also brought in five partners externally into the firm. Sacha has been instrumental in removing barriers for women in senior roles and has worked to ensure that others in the firm have opportunities to develop themselves, motivating many and standing out as a role model to staff.
She has a large client portfolio and in addition to her client service role, working with professional service firms, Sacha currently holds the role of Head of People and Culture on the National Leadership Board of Grant Thornton UK LLP. She was seven months pregnant with her first child when she was interviewed for promotion to full equity Partner and subsequently took six months maternity leave and was on her second maternity leave when she was appointed to the firm's national leadership team.
In addition to direct line management of people in her team, she has a mentoring role with other talented individuals in the firm and also assesses on the firm's partner potential programme which includes follow-up support for participating individuals.
